The Fall Winter 2012 collection reflected the aesthetics of Neo - Noir comics, having Frank Miller's Sin City and Alan Moore and David Lloyd's V for Vendetta as main sources of inspiration. As seen in Phillip Lim's pre-fall collection, the whimsical use of graphic animation was underlined by the use of strong, highlighted contours, contrasting the two styles.

Nude, aqua blue and ivory were mixed with darker colors like aubergine and Bordeaux, accented by the use antique white as the dominant color, highlighting the more tinted, somber tints. This also added to the playful feeling of this collection by putting smaller figures inside the darker silhouettes.

A trompe-l'oeil effect was achieved through layering garments, by placing standard garment shapes (like a T-shirt) on the front side of a coat, referencing the ideas of comic graphics. Toying with an essential element of comic book heroes, transformation and multi-tasking through layering and contrasting, Phillip Lim managed to create a wearable, feminine collection.
