Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2012 London

The alumni of Central Saint Martin’s prestigious MA, Michael Van Der Ham, demonstrated to his audience that he is on route to finding his niche. Once again his unique prints made their way onto the runway, this time more fluid and feminine than in previous collections. Colour was also in abundance. During the first half it was a palette from the 70s that later became infused with metallic combinations of silver and gold.

Deep oranges, mustard yellows and navy, not forgetting to mention a refreshing aqua shade appeared on intricately designed prints as well as geometric stripes. Figure hugging pencil skirts were combined with feminine tops draped around the models’ waist. Layering was also key. At times the collection’s mini dresses used Van Der Ham’s elaborate prints to create beauty pageant-like sashes traveling from the waist to the shoulder. There was also the off the shoulder look of one dresses which no doubt evoked the air of a princess.

As the show went on Van Der Ham referred back to his previous signature; collaging of fabrics formed various skirts and other dresses. However, it was nice to see the collection return to its more structured ensembles. Now with this latest Autumn/Winter 2012 collection the young designer can show off his new and more mature style of feminine sophistication.
