Christopher Kane Menswear Fall Winter 2013 London

Be it in preparation for the impending womenswear fashion season, paring down and taking a step back seems to have caught on with many of the menswear designers this week, including London's favourite provocateur Christopher Kane.

Contrary to the collection’s muses, Frankenstein and the Creature from the Black Lagoon, whose faces were emblazoned on shirts, blousons, and slippers, the clothes were far from macabre and deconstructed, rather they made neat little sets perfect for casual everyday wear. A little too simple at times, perhaps, with black skinny jeans and slipper shoes making the base of almost every outfit, and a leopard scarf providing the only visual interest in a couple of ensembles. Still, Kane’s signature dark undertones still pulsated through, especially in the sharp-collared black wool pea coats, which were the undisputed standout from the bunch. With the addition of witty details such as furry collars on shirts and fingerless gloves, it was Kane as we know him, maybe with the volume a notch down, but still very much serving covetable clothes that are certain to get off the rails as quickly as the bestselling Frankenstein T-shirts from his previous womenswear collection.
