Question: What do fun London girls want to wear next Spring/Summer? Answer: Faux fur with silk pajamas, of course!
Past the sea of Goths, and outlandishly dressed creatures that have flocked to Somerset House for LFW, Hannah Weiland presented her faux fur label’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. It was her first appearance on the official schedule but not on the front row. Actresses Alexa Chung and Laura Bailey and top-notch editors arrived wearing their favorite Shrimps pieces with handbags, to see how to wear fur next summer.
Last season, Shrimp’s Breton stripped fur coat, very obviously faux with blue and bold color bands, was an instant style hit, and suddenly all the cool girls wanted to fake it. For summer, Weiland evolved her Wilma Flintstone creations and made faux fur seem essential in twelve looks.
Think the Flintstones fused with French architect Jacques Couëlle. Or imagine Wilma and Betty Rubble leaving Bedrock and hitting Shoreditch High Street for a girl’s night out in full fuzzy ‘Yabba Dabba Doo’ outfits in peaches, lilacs, yellows and baby blues. Then you have the spirit of Shrimps latest collection.
This season, the faux range expanded to include faux stingray, faux pony, or even faux jaguar with pearl trim cuffs and stoles, sunshine yellow furry heels made by Sophia Webster, and silky pajamas with child-like faces inked on by the luxury loungewear label, Poplin London. Well, if you’re going to fake it, why not be bold and have a good laugh? Shrimps girls know that fun is cocktails in faux fur, though perhaps in high summer it will be styled with a bikini.
